Jnana Mudra

Mudras (hand seals) have various effects. They are ancient methods used for counter-balancing life and establishing a particular vibe. In this case, Jnana is for inducing 'knowledge' or 'wisdom'. Jnana mudra is created by folding the index finger into the thumb's inner creases and performed for 15 minutes and two to three times per day.

This ancient and has high symbolism across multiple religious and spiritual traditions. The thumb represents Brahman's field, while the first finger represents the jivatma or the incarnated atma. Consider the field as the light behind the sun, as though our sun is a round hole where the other side is entirely light. It comes through the circle and sprays bits of light into the darkness (matter) on this side of the sun. We must remember that we are the light projected into matter and exit matter as the light in a repetitive cycle. From the light field, into matter, and back again - this is the wisdom of the yogic library. Jnana mudra aids us in the realization and digestion of this cycle. By performing this mudra, the aspirant can sit in meditation for more extended periods and improve concentration. It is said to help relieve insomnia, improve creativity, restore peace of mind, improve memory, and brighten one's mood.
